The MIT Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory's Ravela and Marshall Multiple Particle Tracker has seen many years of service in the fluids laboratory in the MIT Green Building and beyond. The tracker distribution for download had to be moved from a private site to this location owing to technical difficulties. Please bear with us as we reconstruct.

NEW!  Modified for Windows 10: Download ptack-install.zip, currently version 1.9.2 Beta modified for Windows 10 installation. This is a ".zip" file. Best to save it on your computer, unpack it and run the ptrack-install.exe file within. Kindly ignore a potential windows warning that "Running this app might put your PC at risk," by selecting "More Info" and then the "Run Anyway" tab that appears.  The Installer will then proceed to install a "Marshall & Ravela" tab within "All Programs" where you will find "Particle Tracker."  You should also download this user manual. It may be useful to download this simple but large test data File; please unzip it  prior to playing it in the tracker.

The Particle Tracker program should run right away when clicked.  However, please note that as this program was developed for XP/Vista/W7 (with a few bugs, please report any further issues), "scaling" issues may arise, e.g. the video may occupy only occupy a part of the available program screen.  If this happens, the following post-installation steps need to be performed to prevent DPI scaling from being handed off to the application:

• Open the folder where Ptrack is located. You can do this by going to the Ravela and Marshall link in the Start Menu and then by selecting Ptrack with "Open File Location" option.
• Once located, right click on the Ptrack to examine its Properties. 
• Within Properties, select the Compatibility tab.
• Within Compatibility pane, check Compatibility to be Vista/Windows7.
• Further, select "Change high DPI settings" and check "Override high DPI scaling behavior. Select Performed by: System or System (Enhanced)
• Select OK and then OK/Apply again.
• That should do it!

In the off-chance you do have XP/Vista/W7 (real or virtual machine), follow these instructions: Download Ptrack.zip, currently version 1.9.2 Alpha (XP/Vista/W7). This is a ".zip" file. Best to save it on your computer, unpack it and run the ptrack.msi file within. If this version is your first installation, please run the preinstall program found in "Ravela & Marshall" link of "All Programs" first.
